There are a number of federal nutrition programs that are available to consumers at Maryland farmers’ markets. The Eat Fresh Maryland Network was formed to expand the redemption of these benefits so as to increase access of low-income Maryland residents and revenue for local farmers.
The Network focuses on the following United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) programs:
- Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP – WIC and Seniors)
- Women, Infants, & Children (WIC) Fruit and Vegetable Check Program (FVC)
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly Food Stamps)
