As the end of the market season draws near, and we begin to contemplate next year’s season, we have received a bit of good news from USDA.
The $4m in funding that was released in 2012 for wireless technology to increase acceptance of SNAP at farmers markets will also be available in 2013.
This is particularly great news in Maryland, where we will only have used approximately 20% of the almost $68,000 allotment received in 2012.
So as you begin to think about what you want to accomplish over the winter break (or at least slow-down period if you are in year-round markets), it is a good time to consider implementing acceptance of SNAP at your market.
