The USDA recently granted $4 million for farmers markets nationwide to purchase new EBT machines. These funds are available both for starting new EBT markets and to reimburse markets that have recently acquired EBT.
Approximately $68,000 of this pool is allocated specifically for Maryland, and a plan for all funds to be spent must be in place by July. We have to move quickly to ensure that these funds make it into your communities.
This is a tremendous and groundbreaking opportunity to exponentially increase EBT accessibility in the state and to demonstrate to the USDA the critical need for this type of support.
Please join Amy Crone from the Maryland Department of Agriculture, Michele Levy from Eat Fresh Maryland and Laura Flamm from Maryland Hunger Solutions this coming Monday, June 18th from 9:30-10:30am to learn how your market can access these funds and what support our organizations are able to provide.
